The purposes for which this Society is formed are to discover, procure, preserve and exhibit whatever may relate to the natural, civil, literary, economic, ecclesiastical, and cultural history of the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson in the State of New York;
…and to establish and maintain collections in art, archaeology, economy, bibliography, architecture, memorabilia and related items; to acquire, by purchase, gift, devise, or otherwise, the title to, or the custody, control and preservation of, historic spots and places, buildings and sites of historic interest in Hastings-on-Hudson; and to foster and maintain an awareness of and appreciation of the history of the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson.

Trustees serve a term of three years. The Hastings Historical Society Trustees are elected by the general membership at its Annual Meeting in June. A third of the seats are filled at each Annual Meeting. Officers are elected annually by the Board. The Board meets on the second Thursday of each month, with the exception of July and August.
